I am delighted to welcome Bishop Blase Cupich to Region XII of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference as he is installed as the Sixth Bishop of Spokane.

From his days as a priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha, Bishop Cupich has exhibited effective leadership with a pastoral heart. I have personally appreciated his skill in youth ministry as well as liturgy, and know that he brings those and a multitude of other skills to his new ministry shepherding you, the people of the Diocese of Spokane. You are blessed indeed to receive Bishop Cupich as Bishop Skylstad moves to his well-deserved status as Bishop Emeritus.

Well done, Bishop Skylstad, in your many years of faithful service to the Church in our country and our region. Welcome, Bishop Cupich, and thank you for saying “yes” to the call of Christ’s Church that brings you into our midst.
