Cataldo School’s fifth grade math team finished third in the Math is Cool state competition in Moses Lake, Wash., last month. Cataldo team advanced to the state competition after finishing third in the regional competition in March. Team member Ella McKeirnan finished eighth in the individual state competition. Cataldo’s third place state team was made up of fifth graders Will Gottsch, Ella McKeirnan, Erin O’Rourk, and Ben Schemmel. The team was coached by Molly Schemmel, a Cataldo parent and long-time Math is Cool coach. Molly has coached over 12 successful Cataldo Math is Cool teams in the last seven years.
