Spokane Public Radio offers Christmas programmingthe Inland Register (From the Dec. 4, 2008 edition of the Inland Register) KPBX, 91.1 FM in Spokane, will feature a broad selection of religious programming in the days leading up to the celebration of Christmas. Highlights include: Dec. 15, 11a.m.-noon: “The Rose Ensemble: An Early American Christmas.” Older music of North America, performed by a premier early music ensemble. Dec. 17, 10-11 p.m.: “A Jazz Piano Christmas,” with performances by Latin jazz musicians as well as pianist Ellis Marsalis. Dec. 19, 11 a.m.-noon: “Welcome Christmas!” Performed by the Minneapolis-based ensemble VocalEssence, spotlighting African-American composers.
Dec. 21, 4-5 p.m.: “Hanukkah Lights.” Acclaimed authors explore Hanukkah traditions in original stories written for the program. Dec. 22, 11 a.m.-noon: “Happy Joyous Hanukkah.” Music by The Klezmatics. Dec. 23, 11 a.m.-noon: “A Harpist’s Christmas with Yoland Kondonassis,” accompanied by flautist Joshua Smith and violist Cynthia Phelps.
Dec. 24, 9-10 a.m.: “Handel’s Messiah,” performed by The Calvin Oratorio Society from the Calvin College Fine Arts Center Auditorium in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Dec. 25, 9-10 a.m.: “Choirs and Carols,” including performances around the world by Trio Medieval, the Riga Dom Boys Choir, the Pittsburgh Brass, and Finland’s YL Choir.
