Jack Wilson of St. Charles School, Spokane, was one of 200 middle school students who attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference last month in Washington, D.C.

The conference theme was “The Legacy of American Leadership.”

Participants honed their own leadership skills, visited historical landmarks, and studied the impact of leadership during critical periods of American history, including the Civil War, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Civil Rights movement.

According to Mike Lasday, executive director of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, “One of the goals of (the conference) is to encourage students to build their own leadership skills through active involvement in their communities.”
