Those involved in the church's ministry must always be
mindful of the balance
between appropriate boundaries and the relational character of youth ministry and catechetical programs. One of the important strategies for preventing abuse
experiences is to educate. Part A of the manual includes discussion on sexual
abuse, sexual offenders and signs of abuse. Part B includes training sessions for
young people, ministry leaders and parents. Part C includes a variety of resources for
addressing the issue of abuse.
(Video) Youth Protection: Personal Safety
Awareness (9-12)
Boy Scout of
America - 30 minutes
It is made up of a series of three vignettes dealing with the
issues of acquaintance rape, Internet safety and stalking,
and peer sexual harassment. After each scenario is
presented, the tape should be stopped for local group
discussion. Then
the tape can be continued for a reality check discussion pointing out critical information
regarding each situation. This video
deals with real issues of sexual
abuse that most teens
would have to deal with today.
(Video) A Time to Tell (Grades 7-12)
Boy Scouts of America - 33 Minutes
This video explores the problem of sexual molestation through the
dramatization of experiences of adolescent boys.
Through these experiences, the three R's of youth protection are learned: Recognize, Resist, and Report.
Even though this video only shows boys in situations, the
situations could be viewed from a girl's perspective also. This video would be best used divided by
gender in grades seven and eight. Used in grades
9-12, as a help to bring up the topic of sexual
abuse and a strong discussion followed up by the Youth
Protection video.
