St. Mary School, Spokane Valley, pairs students from upper grades with students in pre-school, kindergarten and first grade. The older students help their younger “buddies” with classroom projects and accompany them to weekly Mass. The younger students look forward to visits with their older friends. Both ages benefit from the arrangement. Pictured are eighth grade girls assisting their four-year-old pre-kindergarten buddies in the creation of an Advent chain.
