For three years Dave Rehberger (right) has been the teacher for the seventh and eighth grades at Guardian Angel-St. Boniface, the Catholic school for Colton and Uniontown. Beginning in September, however, he will don the part-time principal’s hat, as well, replacing retiring principal Guy Pitzer.

“First of all,” Rehberger said, “I’m going to retain my teaching job, so during the normal school day I’ll start teaching when we start school at 8:15. Our seventh and eighth graders leave to go to the public school in Colton at 12:40 every day, so at that time I’ll move into the office to work there for the remainder of the afternoon. I’ll also be in the office before school starts in the morning.”

Rehberger said that Guardian Angel-St. Boniface has contracted with former principal Guy Pitzer to take care of two responsibilities normally handled by the principal: the supervision and observation of the teachers. “I don’t have the credentials to do that,” said Rehberger. Both Rehberger and Pitzer will sit on the school’s Finance Council, where Pitzer will help structure the budget for the following year.

Rehberger graduated from Gonzaga University in 2001. After graduation, he taught for a year in a Jesuit middle school in St. Louis, Mo., as a Jesuit Volunteer. After a year as a substitute teacher in Seattle’s Catholic schools, he taught seventh grade at Seattle’s St. Benedict School for one year prior to being hired at Guardian Angel-St. Boniface.
