Giving back, supporting the neighborhood, cleaning up the community: that was what the residents and staff of Morning Star Boys’ Ranch set out to accomplish this past Earth Day, April 21.

Residents and neighbors alike gathered along the Glenrose Prairie to clean the roadsides of litter and refuse. “It’s great to have the boys out mingling with their neighbors and giving back to the community,” said Dan Kuhlmann, Morning Star’s Acting Director.

“I don’t mind coming out and picking up garbage, on Earth day, as long as it’s not too gross,” said one Ranch resident.

After the scheduled three-hour window of cleanup ended, residents and neighbors headed back to the Ranch for a luncheon and tour of the facility.

“I enjoyed the tour,” said Dan Chadwick, a member of the Glenrose community. One of the Morning Star residents made a presentation on the Ranch’s Equine Assisted Psychotherapy program. Chadwick described him as “a great speaker! I have had college professors who did not articulate as well as he did. I could tell he really enjoyed the horses and was excited to speak with us about it.”

Morning Star Boys’ Ranch offers a caring environment to help at-risk boys, many of whom are neglected or abused, become contributing members of society. During its 50 years of operation, nearly 1,300 boys have passed through the doors of Morning Star.
