Scouting programs augmented by Catholic spiritualityby Deacon Steve Prawdzik, for the Inland Register (From the Feb. 8, 2007 edition of the Inland Register)
The Catholic committee supplements the program of the Boy Scouts of America with special instructions and activities, in the spiritual phase of Scouting as it relates to Catholics. It also supports the Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Boys and Girls religious recognition programs.
The DCCS invites interested Catholic Chartered Organization Representatives, Scout Leaders, Unit Committee Chairs, and Unit Chaplains, and Catholic Girl Scout and Camp Fire Boys and Girls leaders to an information meeting at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Rd, Spokane, on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. (lunch provided). The meeting will cover such topics as the Catholic Committee on Scouting, youth protection, religious emblems programs, Scouter/leader development, and Scout retreats.
The Catholic Committee on Scouting is looking for men and women who are interested in being a part of the committee and having a voice in how to help the youth participating in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Boys and Girls.
Booklets for “Light of Christ,” “Parvuli Dei,” “Ad Altare Dei,” and “Pope Pius XII” religious emblems can be purchased at the Boy Scout Office.
Program books and adult guides for “Family of God,” “I Live My Faith,” “Mary, the First Disciple (Marian Medal),” and “The Spirit Alive” can be purchased through the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry publications guide or online store: http:/www.nfcym.org. Religious recognition emblems, medals, and patches may only be purchased and conferred by the Diocesan Scout Chaplain upon verification of program completion and award application.
