Last fall, Ann Beyer of Home Instead Senior Care was asked by her boss to think of 50 low-income senior citizens the company could honor with Christmas gifts this holiday season. She thought it would be a great opportunity to honor seniors who give back to the community and suggested the 50 active foster grandparents in Spokane and Spokane County. The foster grandparents were invited to a meeting on Dec. 13 at St. Anne Children and Family Center. Upon arrival they were treated to a surprise Christmas party in their honor. Gifts were given by Home Instead; goody bags, refreshments, and music were provided by Park Way Village Retirement Community. “We wanted to honor your service to the children of our community,” said Beyer to the group. According to Foster Grandparent Coordinator Jeanette McNally, “It was wonderful to see that the community does appreciate the foster grandparents and what they do for Spokane’s kids.” (IR photo from Catholic Charities)
