Let me offer a hearty “Amen” to Father Jan Larson’s insightful reflection on “mysterious liturgy” in the July 6 edition of the Inland Register. I, too, recall the mangled Latin and the speed-of-light Masses that were more the rule than the exception in so many of our parishes before Vatican II.

No one can argue with Pope Benedict’s call for a greater sense of transcendence and mystery in the celebration of the Eucharist, but we shouldn’t kid ourselves that a return to the Tridentine Mass or a hybrid form of it is the solution.
