Lapke is a graduate of Carroll College, Helena. He later earned a counseling degree from the University of Pittsburgh and administrative credentials from Eastern Washington University. After serving a stint in the Army, he taught at St. Gertrude Academy, Cottonwood, Idaho; Serra Catholic, Salem, Ore.; seven years at Marycliff High School, Spokane; and tutored at Morning Star Boys’ Ranch. He also taught at Wapato Junior High before moving to Walla Walla and DeSales, where he has served as a principal, teacher, and finally counselor.
The workshop theme is “You are my beloved. Come let me give you my love,” from the Old Testament’s Song of Songs. Wednesday, Sept. 28, will focus on “You are my beloved,” and Thursday, on “Come, now is the time to worship.” Murphy, who lives in Michigan, hosts a weekly television program, The Choices We Face. Sacred Heart Parish, Pullman, is sponsoring a youth day, featuring APeX Ministries. The day starts at 10 a.m., and concludes with Mass at 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided; cost is $10 per person, but there will be no ticket sales at the door. Event participation is limited to 100. APeX Ministries consists of nationally-known youth ministers Gene Monterastelli and Brad Farmer of Washington, D.C. The two have been reaching out to youth in 40 states and Canada since 1996.
