Holy Cross Father Thomas Doyle, a native of Colville, has returned to the Pacific Northwest as Executive Assistant to the President of the University of Portland.

Father Doyle will work closely with the university’s president, the recently inaugurated Holy Cross Father William Beauchamp.

For the past year, Father Doyle has been working as a research associate at the Harvard Business School. He was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1998.

Holy Family School, Clarkston, recently received a grant totally $168,240 from the E.L. Weigand Foundation of Reno, Nev. The grant will fund technology upgrades at the school, including an outreach plan and computer labs.

“Holy Family School members will be learning at a rapid rate in many forms of technology, while being based in 83 years of value-based, strong Catholic tradition,” said a press release from the school. “We appreciate the E.L. Weigand Foundation Board of Trustees’ confidence in Holy Family School.”

The Foundation supports programs and projects of organizations in the fields of education, health and medical research, civic and community affairs, arts and cultural affairs, and public affairs.

The Sisters of Providence will host the first in a series of nine monthly twilight retreats for women in Spokane next month.

The evening session is planned for Sunday, Sept. 26, at Mount St. Joseph in Spokane. The evening includes dinner.

The theme of the event is “Twilight Retreat: Journey to Your Life-Choice.” It begins at 4 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m.

Gonzaga University’s Continuing Education program is offering a Professional Writing Skills Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 14 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.), and continuing Wednesday, Sept. 15 (9 a.m.-noon). Teaching the workshop will be GU nursing professor Susan Norwood, associate dean in the School of Professional Studies.
