St. Aloysius Parish will once again host the Novena of Grace – the 77th annual novena – next month.

The novena begins this year on Saturday, March 6, and concludes on Sunday, March 14.

This year’s presenters are two Jesuit priests: Fathers Rick Ganz and Gary Uhlenkott.

Novena services follow a schedule: prayer service, beginning at 12:15 p.m. (12:30 p.m. on Sundays); Benediction at 3:30 p.m.; Mass at 5:15 p.m.

In addition, the sacrament of reconciliation will be celebrated after each novena service.

The theme of this year’s novena series is “Let God be God.”

St. Aloysius is located on the corner of Boone and Astor, adjacent to the Gonzaga University campus, in Spokane.

Father James R. Miller, from the Diocese of Dallas, Texas, will preach St. Anthony Parish’s retreat next month.

The retreat will center on the theme “My Place in the Universe of Relations.” Sessions are scheduled for Sunday, March 14, through Wednesday, March 17.

Father Miller was ordained a priest in 1968 after service in the Navy and a career as vice-president of a small electronics firm. He is now pastor of St. Joseph Parish in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He also has ministered in Alaska and Mexico.

The retreat is open to the public.

St. Anthony Church is located at 2320 N. Cedar in Spokane.

The youth of Morning Star Boys’ Ranch established a Giving Tree in December. The boys made donations from their weekly allowance to purchase and deliver turkeys to the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s family services. A total of $146 was collected. Father Mike Savelesky, pastor of Assumption Parish, Spokane, and spirituality columnist for the Inland Register, will lead a men’s evening of reflection, “Putting the Mass to Work in My Life,” on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Clare Center, 4624 E. Jamieson Rd. in Spokane.

Father Savelesky’s presention will focus on the major dynamics of the Eucharist – gathering, listening, thanking, union, and being sent forth – and explore the celebration of Mass as the foundational prayer and celebration of the Catholic faith.

Dinner will be served.

Cost is $30 per person, or $50 for two; call 448-4887 to register.

St. Anne Children and Family Center’s Child Development Program is now open from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. with educationally-based child care for children from four weeks to three years of age. Openings are currently available in all age groups.

Both private pay and Working Connections Child Care families are welcome.
