Celebrating the good doctor
Dr.
Seuss’s birthday was celebrated in appropriate fashion recently at St. Aloysius School,
Spokane, where the first graders enjoyed a feast of green eggs and ham, taken, of course, from
one of his most popular works for children. Doing the stirring is Matt Kincanon; providing
literary encouragement is Meredith Hallinan. (IR photo from St. Aloysius School)
‘Theology on Tap’ reaches out to young adult Catholics
“Ordinary people with extraordinary faith” is the theme of the “Theology on Tap” program which began last month in Spokane.
The program has seen success in a number of areas of the United States, as well as among college populations in the Spokane Diocese.
Young adult Catholics gather for an evening of socializing, food, and a talk about various aspects of living the Catholic faith.
Father Jose Luis Millan, pastor of the parishes in Chewelah, Springdale and Valley, spoke in February on “To Work and to Love: Our Responsibilities as Baptized Catholics.” On Monday, March 31, Father Dan Barnett, pastor of St. Patrick and St. Francis Xavier parishes in Spokane, will talk on “Theology of the Body.” Doug Banks, principal of St. Thomas More School and a member of the current deacon formation class for the Diocese of Spokane, will talk on “The Importance of Catholicism in the Lives of Our Families” on Monday, April 28.
Both events will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at Little Italy Restaurant, 7458 N. Division in Spokane. The series is scheduled to run for six months.
