Bishop White seminarians recently participated in a workshop on sexuality conducted, “Integration of Sexuality on the Road toward Priesthood,” by Dr. Andrew Haffey, a clinical psychologist. Dr. Haffey spoke with seminarians about the psychology of men in relation to human sexuality. The seminarians and Dr. Haffey entered into a dialogue about traditional ways of coping with the struggles associated with celibacy. He offered an additional model which was termed “the relational model” for handling sexual feelings and for living celibacy in a healthy and holy manner. Father Darrin Connall, rector of Bishop White, said that “human formation is essential to priestly formation.” In addition to his private practice, Dr. Haffey conducts psychological screening and evaluations for all Spokane Diocese seminarians.
