A vocation festival sponsored by University Ministry at Gonzaga University and Bishop White Seminary will be held all day on Friday, Feb. 28, in the Crosby Student Center on the Gonzaga campus.

The day begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with a Mass in the newly renovated student chapel at 4 p.m. Everyone in the diocese and surrounding area is welcome to meet representatives of men and women Religious orders, diocesan priests and deacons, and lay service organizations from around the Northwest and other parts of the country. There will be Dominicans, Franciscans, Jesuits, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Carmelites, Holy Names Sisters and many other groups available for one-on-one conversations and presentations on their way of life.

Every hour on the hour there will be large group presentations in the form of skits, music, readings, videos or computer presentations that highlight vocations in the Catholic Church today.

Keith Thomas, principal organist for the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, will present an organ recital on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral, 1115 W. Riverside Ave. in Spokane.

The program will include music by Scarlatti, Buxtehude, Durufe, and Stoelzel.

Accompanying Thomas will be trumpeter Chris Cook for “Concerto for Trumpet and Organ in E Minor” by Stoelzel.

Besides his work as an organist, Thomas is principal oboist for the Spokane Symphony.

The concert is open to the public; a free-will donation will be taken. For more information, call 358-4290.

Assumption Parish, Spokane, will be the site of a workshop titled “Ageless in the Lord” on Tuesday and Thursday, March 11 and 13.

The morning workshop, which runs from 8 a.m.-noon, is offered by Wisdomworks, a ministry of the Holy Names Sisters.

“Ageless” is designed for individuals over age 50, focusing on keys to remaining spiritually vital.

St. St. Vincent de Paul Store at 2901 E. Trent, Spokane, suffered a robbery last month.

Cash bags and monies from all store sales for the day were taken sometime after 5 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Jesse Fledderjohann, a senior at DeSales in Walla Walla, has been named a National Merit Finalist.

Jesse is the son of Dirk and Julie Fledderjohann.

He plans to attend the University of Portland next year, majoring in engineering.

A Spokane chapter of the national organization Voice of the Faithful has formed in Spokane.

The group formalized its affiliation at a meeting Feb. 10.

Much of the group’s focus is directed toward the sexual abuse scandal. A web site gives additional information about the group’s goals and objectives. The address: http://www.spovotf.org

The next meeting, open to the public, will be held in O’Malley Hall in the basement of St. Aloysius Church, 330 E. Boone Ave. in Spokane, on Tuesday, March 18, beginning at 7 p.m.

The alumni of St. Patrick School, Spokane, will host their 13th annual dinner/auction on Saturday, March 8, at Gonzaga Prep, 1224 E. Euclid, Spokane.

This year’s theme is “All Aboard the Emerald Streak,” celebrating the Hillyard area’s railroad heritage.
