Winning float

Walla Catholic Community Middle School Youth took first place this year for a religious entry
in the annual Christmas Parade of Lights in downtown Walla Walla earlier this month. The
students’ float, a giant advent wreath, gently reminded the community of the spiritual side of
the season. (IR photo from Sue Logsdon)

Spokane’s “Age of Elegance.” The clothing was part of a traveling trunk show from the Northwest
Museum of Arts and Culture, an interactive display which let students learn first-hand about a
colorful period in the city’s history. (IR photo from St. Aloysius School)
St. Patrick School, Spokane, to present Christmas play
Spokane’s St. Patrick School will present its annual Christmas play on Wednesday, Nov.
18, beginning at 10 a.m.
The play, titled Hotel Bethlehem, will be performed in the parish church, 5021
N. Nelson.
All are invited.
Italian Mass to mark Epiphany next month
In many parts of Italy, the feast of the Epiphany rivals Christmas and Easter in
cultural importance. Now, celebrating the revelation of the Lord to the nations will be easier.
St. Patrick Parish, 5021 N. Nelson in Spokane, will host an Italian Mass and potluck dinner at
5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003.
According to the pastor, Father Dan Barnett, many of the original parishioners include
Italian heritage in their background. “We wanted to do something so they could celebrate their
cultural heritage,” he said; “what better way than with Mass, the ultimate source of our
unity?”
The Italian-American club will be assisting with the arrangements.
The potluck dinner will be held in the basement of the school, in the Holy Names Hall.
All are invited to attend.
For more information, call the parish: 487-1325.
Honoring veterans

third, fourth and fifth grade classes at St. Aloysius School, Spokane, performed during a
Veterans Day assembly last month. The three grades are pictured singing “All American Kid,”
under the leadership of music director Bonnie McCollum. The entire student body - kindergarten
through eighth grade - participated. Boy and Girl Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance. Other
aspects of the program included prayers for veterans, special tributes, and patriotic songs.

queen and princess of the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce’s annual lighted Christmas parade. The
two were chosen for their honors based on their showing in an art contest. Holy Family School
and St. Stanislaus Tri-Parish School, Lewiston, combined their efforts for a joint float in the
Dec. 7 parade. Pictured with the two winners is Chamber of Commerce representative Kathy
