Dear Friends in Christ,
I along with the other Catholic bishops of Washington State today released a letter expressing our concern that poverty is reaching “crisis proportions” and call on all people to take direct action with those who are homeless, mentally ill, addicted and hungry.
The pastoral letter is a formal declaration by the bishops of Washington that recognizing and taking action to address poverty are moral issues and priorities for Catholics and all people of good faith. Please take the time to read our letter and consider how you can advocate “on behalf of those who lack the basic rights of food and shelter, access to health care, a living wage and education” and to ask difficult questions and search for solutions. Face of Poverty Pastoral Letter. El rostro de la pobreza.

In August it was announced that the Inland Register would be ending production to make room for the development of a “news magazine.” After a review of the options available for this new publication, the Office of Communications has decided to go forward in partnership with a group called FAITH Catholic (a media company based in Lansing, Michigan) which specializes in assisting dioceses with the production of high quality magazines that emphasize faith formation and local content.
The first issue will be mailed out on December 14th and the magazine will be published 10 times a year. Twice a year beginning in 2017, the magazine will be mailed not only to ACA donors and subscribers but also to all registered parishioners in the diocese. These special issues will be mailed in the weeks before Christmas and Easter.
If you have an idea for a story, please email Mitchell Palmquist, Director of Communications.
